It's a damned good read, as is the second one. Haven't read the third yet, but it is near the top of my reading list.
It is kind of steampunk, in a space opera kind of way. There are plenty of references to popular culture, especially sci-fi movies and TV. Oh and of course, it all works best while sipping a nice cup of tea...
