Leviathans

Catalyst games has been showing off its new project- Leviathans: an alternate history miniatures game of air fleet battles set in 1910. For us that means more pulpy airship goodness!
(actually, Ive been excited about this one for awhile - see my post here: http://pauljamesog.blogspot.com/2008/08/leviathan-new-vsf-game.html)

Over Togo's head the Zed flag was burning. The pride of the Japanese fleet, the battleship Mikasa, his Mikasa, was sinking. His aide tried to pull him toward the lifeboats, but Togo stopped and looked up. He saw the battered Russian leviathan claw its way into the blue sky. And at that moment Admiral Togo Heihachiro knew that Japan would not rule the east, after all. And one more thing. It was not the age of the gun.

It was the age of the sky.

There is also a promising new associated blog, "Monsters in the Sky" started up here:

Hold onto your goggles chaps, this is looks to be a good ride!

Looks very promising - at the least it will mean more ideas and exposure of the aerial VSF genre.

I do want to see some nice minis out of this!!

Any chance of getting a Leviathans category on the left-hand side of the page? :)

OK, but only if you promise do make lots of cool flying contraptions and write lots of great supporting material!

Tas, I believe we can keep our end of that up well. I can't speak as to Aeronef, but Catalyst are the heirs of the departed but much-loved FASA when it comes to universe creation. Fiction has been commissioned and some written already - the story of "our" Tsushima for example - and if all goes to plan there'll be years of fun, innovative game pieces, (and at least one excrutiatingly awful pun).

The playtesters are having a ball, and it's an enormously satisfying feeling seeing it all coming together. The main problem is not bleeding all our really cool stuff & plans out in a surfeit of enthusiasm! (If I did that, I'd get hit. Amongst other things, Catalyst are professional, and (unlike FASA) very competent businesspeople too - who just happen to love games.

Those Catalyst boys put together a good product. It's nice to have so much stuff produced in my neck fo the woods.

Some of the background fiction being posted on www.monstersinthesky.com ... I'll let you judge whether it's moving in the direction of 'great', but I liked it ;)
