WoW, this is fantastic! Really inspirational for players of All Quiet on the Martian Front too.

Adventures in Victorian Science Fiction & Steampunk with ramblings about Aeronefs, Dirigibles, Land Ironclads, Anarchists, Dinosaur Hunting, Terranefs, Aquanefs, Mad Scientists, electric contraptions and steam conveyances. It may not make sense, but there will be claret and a nice cheese board at the end. Tally-Ho and "Vôtre dans une sauce au vin blanc!"

Tsushima
Scenes from a Japanese film "Clouds on the Hill", which I have been unable to get a copy of so far. Some good imagery in these clips, particularly the low freeboard on the capital ships.
There is also a great (and unfortunately hard to find) Japanese film "Battle of the Japan Sea" made in 1969. The first few minutes are available on YouTube.
One of the more interesting written accounts of the whole battle that I have read is "The Fleet that had to Die" by Richard Hough. Originally written by a Russian only a year or so after the battle, it has some very interesting perspectives regarding the Baltic Fleet and its epic journey from Russia to Tsushima and its subsequent destruction. Well worth tracking a copy down.
And if you ever find yourself in Japan near Tokyo, you must go to the outlying city of Yokosuka and go onboard Admiral Togo's Flagship: the Battleship Mikasa. I had the privilege in 1995 and it was fantastic.

JC of Mars
The girls went out to the Taylor Swift concert tonight, so naturally the boys sneaked out to see John Carter of Mars after they left. Its had a bunch of mixed reviews, but our opinion? Epic! A great adventure movie with amazing effects. It had some slow spots, but these were necessary for the plot and I guess they just seemed slower after all the action bits.
Seriously, ,the Green and White Martians and the associated special effects are fantastic (and should be for 250 million dollars!) If you are looking for a good, fun adventure yard this is a great ride. The Lad and I are itching to play some "Redcoats on Mars" style games now!
PS Its pretty WoW in 3D!

John Carter
Taking a break from watching England thrash the bally Indians at The Oval I sat down with a fine port and piece of game pie at my portable Babbage Engine this afternoon and came across this chronophotographic adevrtisement for a forthcoming feature about that Yankee bounder who we came across on Mars (he'd gone bally native don't ya know).
Harrumph! Whatever, it put the wind up one to see one of those bally four armed green Martians again I can say, time for a stuff one what?

Bally Martians Again!
Egad! There I was researching the recent Martian invasion for my magnum opus on my Babbage Engine when I came across this chronophotographic scientific romance adventure for young boys set fifteen years into the future after the First Martian War! Looks a jolly wheeze one must say but I think the bally war elephants are a bit strange, though I would have liked one up Whereizitstan when one was fighting the dirty fakirs I can tell you, what!

Burpa Revolt Footage
What ho chaps! I was browsing the old Babbage Machine after a bit of tiffin and came across this chronophotographic footage of the recent Burpa rebellion involving my old fag from Eton, Sidders. Looks like he managed to fight the bally Pandees off with the brave lads of the Third Foot and Mouth. Jolly good show what?!

Spring Heeled Jack
Gentlemen, with the festive season now upon us, it is important that we all keep our wits about us and twelve-bore to hand to protect our loved ones and wine collections from nefarious villians such as the one shown here in this chronophotographic record of the bounder known as Spring Heeled Jack!
Seemed appropriate for post 666! :-)

Steam Trek: The Moving Picture
Gentlemen, further research on my personal Babbage engine has unearthed this exciting chronophotographic record of the adventures of the crew of an astronef on an alien planet, though I must confess I am slightly dubious to its veracity in parts...

Pax Britannia: Movies On The Moon
Shocking revalations appear to be afoot gentlemen, having accessed this chronophotographic record via my personal Babbage engine regarding the next installment of Ulysses Quicksilver adventures. I will be giving them a thorough investigation imminently and will report back toodle suite (as they say over the Channel). It looks like it could be our hero's most challenging adventure yet...

Pax Britannia: Moving Pictures
Genetlemen, it has been brought to my attention that those of you of a more modern disposition are able to view a short "movie" (I think that's the term) made with one of those chronophotographic cameras on your personal Babbage engine about the Pax Britannia penny dreadfuls.
Personally one would rather watch Così Fan Tutte down the Garden but there is no accounting for taste.

20,000 Leagues under the Sea
I know this isnt the first film version of Verne's aquanef classic (which incidentally has never been publically released) but this version (1hr 39mins) does includes the first underwater filming. Its a very liberal interpretation of both 20,000 Leagues and its sequel Mysterious Island.

The Lost World
A copy of the 1925 film - complete and available for free download - a great find by Mssr Vanvlak!
1 hr and 8 min of nostalgic fun:
Explorer Professor Challenger is taking quite a beating in the London press thanks to his claim that living dinosaurs exist in the far reaches of the Amazon. Newspaper reporter Edward Malone learns that this claim originates from a diary given to him by fellow explorer Maple White's daughter, Paula. Malone's paper funds an expedition to rescue Maple White, who has been marooned at the top of a high plateau. Joined by renowned hunter John Roxton, and others, the group goes to South America, where they do indeed find a plateau inhabited by pre-historic creatures, one of which they even manage to bring back to London with them.
